SIR WALTER
A broad leaf buffalo similar in appearance and performance to Palmetto. It is a premium lawn turf that establishes quickly and not only performs well in full sun, but better than most other Buffalos in shaded areas. Growing quicker than other Buffalos, Sir Walter is hardwearing and recovers well from damage. It is also frost tolerant, maintaining reasonable colour during the winter months and is resistant to a number of insect and fungal pests.
Sir Walter being an Austalian Turf, is well suited to the Australian environment and unlike other buffalos, it is a low maintenance lawn and therefore the perfect choice for a family lawn.
Sir Walter is a hardy, low maintenance lawn, performs well in heavy traffic areas and recovers well from damage. It is perfectly suited to home lawns and commercial uses.
PALMETTO BUFFALO
A broad leaf type of Buffalo similar in appearance to Sir Walter, with its soft textured leaf. Unlike traditional Buffalos it establishes well after laying. Palmetto has an outstanding Emerald green colour that is a true eye catcher. It performs well in full sun and exhibits good shade tolerance when compared to other varieties of lawn, requiring 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight each day. Palmetto is an ideal turf to lay in coastal areas on account of its salt resistant qualities.
Its excellent frost tolerance and colour retention make it a better winter performer than most other buffalos.
EMPIRE TURF
Empire exhibits a narrow leaf, mid-way between a Couch and a Buffalo grass. It is significantly more drought tolerant than other lawn varieties (a quality owing to its deep root system) and better in filtered shade than the more regular Couches.
It is hard-wearing and slower growing than the Palmetto or Sir Walter buffalos and therefore requires less maintenance. However, it shows a moderate frost tolerance. Nonetheless it is rated as one of the most water efficient grasses on the market today and thrives in hot and humid conditions.
STANDARD SOFT LEAF BUFFALO
Standard Soft Leaf Buffalo Standard Soft Leaf Buffalo is a broad leaf buffalo type, similar in appearance to traditional buffalo, but has a somewhat rougher texture than Palmetto and Sir Walter. Standard Soft Leaf is a hard wearing and low maintenance lawn, however it turns a purple-green colour during the winter months. For this reason it is generally cheaper than most other buffalos.
WINTER GREEN COUCH
Winter Green Couch Winter Green Couch is a hardy couch lawn which looks similar to Greenlees Park Couch, but has a finer leaf that forms a thicker mat and is characterised by its lush green colour. It makes a beautiful home lawn if continuously maintained.
GREENLEES PARK COUCH
Although high maintenance like all varieties of couch, Greenlees Park couch is one of the easiest to maintain. It is widely used on home lawns, bowling greens, golf tees and any other area that a fine leaf turf is desired, Greenlees Park Couch can be mown to a low depth if required and forms a very tight firm surface. With its fine leaf and rich colour it looks great and is best grown in full sun.
KIKUYU
A most popular variety of lawn for both domestic or commercial uses due to its affordable price. Kikuyu is a vigorous grower and will invade garden beds if not properly maintained. It retains its colour in the Winter months. Kikuyu needs to be mown weekly in the Summer months to maintain a good appearance. It is characterised by poor growth in shaded areas. Where possible, other more appropriate varieties should be considered.
